AIRBNB CRACKS DOWN ON FAKE LISTINGS WITH AI TECHNOLOGY
Fake listings have become a thorn in the side of Airbnb users, but the popular short-term rental service is fighting back with the help of artificial intelligence (AI). In a bid to crack down on fraudsters, Airbnb has blocked a staggering 157,000 fake listings from joining the platform this year, and has also removed an additional 59,000 listings that managed to slip through the cracks.
According to a recent company survey, fake listings are one of the top issues that customers have to deal with when using Airbnb. To combat this, starting in February, hosts will be required to go inside the property and open the Airbnb app. GPS technology will be used to verify that the host is at the correct address, and AI will compare live photos taken by the host with the pictures used in the listing. If the verification process is successful, a “verified” icon will be displayed on the listing.
In addition to tackling fake listings, Airbnb is also addressing complaints about high cleaning fees. The company plans to change the way prices are displayed for users, ensuring a more transparent and fair pricing structure.
CEO Brian Chesky emphasized the company’s commitment to improving the Airbnb experience by actively seeking customer feedback. He took to Twitter and received over 3,000 responses, resulting in 53 upgrades to the platform. Five out of the top eight suggestions from customers have already been implemented.
Airbnb’s use of AI technology is a significant step towards eliminating fake listings and providing a more secure and enjoyable experience for its users. With the introduction of the “verified” icon, potential guests can feel confident that the properties they are considering are legitimate. And with the changes to pricing display, users can expect a more transparent and fair booking process.
