Discover the Game-Changer Trend Heartily Embraced by Amazon, Microsoft, and YouTube!

New Alexa Powered by AI Steals the Show at Big Tech Fall Events
Last week, Amazon, Microsoft, and YouTube all centered their product launch events around the theme of artificial intelligence (AI), specifically “generative AI.” Dave Limp, Senior VP of Devices and Services at Amazon, revealed an all-new Alexa voice assistant that will be powered by a new large language model. Similarly, YouTube CEO Neal Mohan expressed that they believe generative AI will make it easier for everyone to create. Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella positioned the company as the AI leader, stating that generative AI is the future. The buzz around generative AI has reached its peak.

Amazon announced during its fall event that the generative AI update for Alexa will be available for all Echo products dating back to 2014. Vice President of Amazon Devices International, Eric Saarnio, confirmed that using generative AI enables them to innovate more quickly. The new Alexa will be able to resume conversations without a wake word, respond faster, and learn user preferences. Limp clarified that generative AI is primarily focused on content creators, while Alexa is focused on everyday consumers and the smart home.

Microsoft’s special Surface event introduced Copilot, its new AI-powered assistant integrated into Windows. The event mainly focused on AI-based announcements, with only a small portion dedicated to the Surface hardware. The Surface Laptop Studio 2 and Surface Laptop Go 3 were announced, but nothing extraordinary. The public face of Surface, Panos Panay, left Microsoft just days before the event. This, along with declining sales, suggests that Microsoft is less enthusiastic about its Surface PC line. However, they are still committed to the devices business, though it is a small part of their overall revenue.

With these new AI advancements, it remains to be seen whether the new launches will revive sales amidst a global economic slowdown and competition from Apple.
