OVER HALF OF AMERICAN EMPLOYEES ARE USING AI TOOLS, BUT THEIR BOSSES ARE IN THE DARK!
A new survey reveals that more than half of American workers are using generative AI tools to get their work done, but their employers are clueless about it. The survey, conducted by The Conference Board, found that 56% of respondents are using AI tools for work-related tasks, while only 26% say their employers have a policy regarding the use of AI.
AI adoption is on the rise, with 31% of respondents using generative AI on a regular basis. But it’s not all rosy: 44% of workers have never used AI at all.
So, what are people actually using AI for? According to the survey, drafting written content, brainstorming ideas, and conducting background research are the most common use cases. However, few are using AI for quantitative or technical tasks.
Despite this, most workers believe that the quality of AI output is on par with that of a human worker. 45% say that the quality is equal to that of an experienced worker, while 31% believe it matches that of a novice worker. Only 10% say that AI output is as good as that of an expert worker.
Interestingly, most respondents feel that AI has positively affected their productivity, but only a small fraction say it has made a significant improvement. 7% report a significant increase in productivity, while 56% report a slight increase.
When it comes to AI policies, the majority of workers say that their organizations either don’t have a policy or are still in the process of developing one. 34% say their organization has no AI policy, while 23% say one is in development.
