You won’t believe what the UK just revealed at UN General Assembly!

FOREIGN SECRETARY UNVEILS PLAN TO TRANSFORM DEVELOPMENT WITH AI

In a groundbreaking move, the UK Foreign Secretary has outlined a bold vision of how artificial intelligence (AI) can revolutionize international development. Speaking at the UNGA, he called on global partners to join forces in harnessing the power of AI to accelerate progress towards the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals.

The UK will lead the way by launching the “AI for Development” program. Developed in partnership with Canada’s International Development Research Centre, this initiative will focus on helping developing countries in Africa build local AI skills and foster innovation.

But that’s not all—the UK is also investing over £1 million to leverage AI to predict conflicts and humanitarian crises. This funding will accelerate the delivery of the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals by helping countries and global organizations prevent crises before they happen. The newly established Complex Risk Analytics Fund (CRAF’d) will also provide support in responding to emergencies and facilitate the recovery process.

The Foreign Secretary stressed the immense potential of AI, highlighting its ability to expedite drug discovery, develop treatments for diseases, and predict food insecurity. He emphasized the importance of a global approach that harnesses AI’s capabilities to address humanity’s shared challenges.

The UK is committed to fostering global collaboration and will be hosting the AI Safety Summit in November. This summit aims to bring together governments, tech firms, and NGOs to discuss and advance safety measures in AI technology.

Julie Delahanty, President of the International Development Research Centre, expressed enthusiasm for the collaboration with the UK in tackling pressing development challenges. The AI for Development program will leverage AI’s capacity to reduce inequalities, address poverty, improve food systems, combat climate change, and promote inclusive education.

This investment reflects the UK’s commitment to addressing global challenges through AI innovation and is part of a broader effort to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals.

The UK joins forces with Germany, the United States, the Netherlands, the European Commission, and Finland as a partner in the Complex Risk Analytics Fund (CRAF’d), working in collaboration with the United Nations.

Stay tuned for the first major global AI Safety Summit at Bletchley Park in November, where international stakeholders will unite to advance the safety of cutting-edge AI technology.
