He referred to the data centers as “AI factories,” capable of continuously receiving and processing data from autonomous electric vehicles to improve their performance.

The announcement comes at a time when Nvidia is facing export restrictions that prohibit it from selling certain products in China. However, the company’s GH200 superchip, which is not affected by the restrictions, will be utilized for the AI factories.

The partnership between Foxconn and Nvidia was first announced in January with a focus on developing autonomous vehicle platforms. Foxconn would manufacture electronic control units for cars based on Nvidia’s DRIVE Orin chip. Foxconn’s transition from a manufacturing service company to a platform solution company aligns with its ambitions to capitalize on the growing EV market and expand into smart cities and smart manufacturing.

As part of Foxconn’s EV push, the company unveiled its sixth prototype electric cargo van called Model N at Tech Day. Although the company has set ambitious goals, it has only received limited orders thus far. However, Foxconn is in talks with 14 potential customers, with India and Japan identified as promising countries for EV development.
