Scientists Tackle AI Hallucinations with Groundbreaking Tool!
In a breakthrough development, a team of scientists from the University of Science and Technology of China and Tencent’s YouTu Lab have created a powerful tool to combat the problem of “hallucinations” in artificial intelligence (AI) models.

Woodpecker uses a five-stage process involving key concept extraction, question formulation, visual knowledge validation, visual claim generation, and hallucination correction. This method, according to the researchers’ preprint research paper, provides more transparency and improves accuracy by as much as 30.66%/24.33% compared to the baseline MiniGPT-4/mPLUG-Owl.
The team has evaluated various “off the shelf” MLLMs using Woodpecker and found that it can easily be integrated into other MLLMs. This means better, more accurate output from AI models in the future.
