When Kingsley Ndoh lost his aunt to colorectal cancer, it was a turning point. This tragic event stirred up in him the need to make a change. So, he left Nigeria in search of greater knowledge and inspiration to start Hurone AI, a medical technology company focused on using artificial intelligence to deliver precision care, with a specific focus on underrepresented populations in Africa and Latin America.
The company’s main focus is on creating solutions tailored for Africans and other underrepresented populations, allowing them the fighting chance against illness through culturally relevant medical technology. The tools, powered by AI, are intended to address the disparities in health outcomes for these populations, particularly in cancer treatment. Hurone AI also seeks to improve drug safety in these populations by supporting pharmaceutical clinical trials, particularly during phase three testing.
Earlier this year, Hurone AI launched in Nigeria at Zenith Medical and Kidney Centre in Abuja. It’s the largest kidney centre in West Africa and sees a significant volume of urologic cancers. The company’s AI platform is useful in detecting early signs of kidney deterioration or rejection in patients on dialysis or who have undergone kidney transplants. The platform has been deployed in Rwanda with 100 breast cancer patients using it.
Innovation in cancer diagnosis and drug discovery is leaning heavily on the advancement of artificial intelligence, specifically generative AI. At AWS re:Invent, Hurone AI was acknowledged as a revolutionary solution with the potential to transform healthcare, particularly through generative AI.
