MIT Energy and Climate Hack: The Participants, Winners, and Solutions
The MIT Energy and Climate Hack brought together participants from across the globe to tackle some of the most complex challenges facing society today. Organized by MIT students, this year’s event culminated in the creation of innovative solutions and reminders that groundbreaking ideas are always just around the corner.
During the three-day event, teams made up of students from MIT and other colleges worked together to ‘hack the challenge’ presented by company representatives. Partners included Google, Ironwood, and more.Â
Participants focused on energy markets, transportation, and farms and forests. This year also marked the first time that artificial intelligence was utilized as part of the solution creation process. The hackathon showed that AI can be the key to developing positive climate solutions in various sectors including transportation and agriculture.
In the final presentations, the team Fenergy was declared the winner with their solution, Unbiased Cathode, which allows researchers to assess the supply chain implications of battery materials before development begins, thus improving the lab-to-production timeline.Â
