BIG TECH UNITE TO CREATE RESPONSIBLE AND OPEN AI ALLIANCE!
Looks like the big tech brands are teaming up to do some good! Yessiree, IBM, Meta, Intel, Red Hat, and Oracle are getting together with some big names like NASA and the Linux Foundation to create an AI Alliance that is meant to develop and promote responsible AI technology. And they’ve got over 50 founding members and collaborators. That’s a lot of influence!
The community is all about supporting open innovation and open science, as well as increasing public discourse about the benefits and risks of AI. Sounds like the AI Alliance wants to have a say in any regulations that get made governing AI.
The big push for the AI Alliance comes as there is a growing public concern about the uses of AI. A survey in the UK found that the public is majorly worried about AI, driverless cars, and autonomous weapons. Also, there’s some concern about who is going to be responsible when things go wrong.
EU Parliament has already passed the AI Act, and politicians in the US are trying to get a federal agency to oversee the development and use of AI systems.
The good folks at the AI Alliance are getting busy forming groups and throwing up some guidelines! They’re aiming to pool resources and knowledge to address safety concerns and to build a catalog of vetted tools for safe and effective use of AI systems.
With some major names in AI missing, like Nvidia and the big investor Microsoft, we can’t help but wonder what this will mean for the future.
