Roberts acknowledged that AI could be a game-changer on how trials are handled, and that AI can provide broader access to justice. However, he warned that while AI has potential, using it in the courts requires caution and humility. He cautioned that there is a risk of invading privacy interests and dehumanizing the law.
*NO OBSTOLESCENCE*
But fear not! Roberts reassured us that, despite AI having a significant impact on legal work, judges are not about to become obsolete. According to the learned Chief Justice, there are still “gray areas,” requiring the human touch and judgment.
*FALLING CASELOAD*
Notable also in Roberts’ annual report is the decrease in the caseloads in the federal judiciary. There was a significant decline in the number of cases filed and petitions for review at the court, which amounted to a near-historic low.
