ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE: UH Mānoa Releases Guidance for Faculty and Staff

The Office of the Vice Provost for Academic Excellence has just released a handy guide, providing advice and resources on how to navigate the challenges and opportunities posed by AI.

That’s why UH Mānoa Provost Michael Bruno decided it was time to provide some much-needed guidance. “The importance of issuing this guidance is that we want to, as best as we can, get this right and make use of the evolving technology,” explained Bruno.

The guidance advises faculty to familiarize themselves with the capabilities of these tools and think about how they can be integrated into teaching and learning experiences. It’s all about striking the right balance.
But UH Mānoa also wants to make sure their own staff are up to speed with AI. They are offering professional development programs, such as Generative AI in the Classroom and Text-to-Multimedia Generative AI Tools, to equip their faculty and staff with the necessary skills.
While embracing AI is crucial for the future of education, UH Mānoa recognizes the importance of teaching students how to think, write, and communicate without relying solely on these tools. They want to ensure that students are not only proficient in using AI but also capable of critical thinking and independent work.
