AMD CEO Lisa Su Optimistic About AI Semiconductor Demand

During a session at the Goldman Sachs Communacopia and Technology Conference, AMD CEO Lisa Su expressed her optimism about the demand for artificial intelligence (AI) semiconductors. She stated that AI remains the first, second, and third priority for the company, and that they have seen a continued acceleration in AI engagements in the data center.

This positive assessment comes after Su’s previous announcement that AI customer engagements had increased by over seven times in the last quarter. The fact that interest in AI is still growing indicates that the market has not yet reached its peak.

Su emphasized that AMD is one of the few companies that offers a complete AI technology portfolio across chips and software. She also highlighted their strong supply chain relationships, which enables them to secure the necessary capacity to be a major player in the AI semiconductor market.

Furthermore, Su reiterated her expectation that the market for AI accelerators in data centers will reach $150 billion by 2027. She also confirmed that AMD’s upcoming MI300 AI accelerator is on track to launch in the fourth quarter.

Shares of AMD have risen about 37% over the past year, slightly below the 43% rise in the iShares Semiconductor ETF which tracks the performance of the ICE Semiconductor Index.
